It's time for Coconut Creek to  stand up and use our given voting rights  to campaign against all incumbent Coconut Creek city elected officials that shamefully disregarded every concerned residents plea to keep the current zoning on this property and not allow a Big Box developer to destroy our community.

With no valid arguments, the Commissioners stated that they had "NO" control over what could go there and this monstrosity would be better for everyone in Coconut Creek.

"This proved not to be true"

We believe by actions observed, that our current city officials are not making choices for our great city that would represent  the local residents concerned. With over 1000+ signatures on our petition in an effort to preserve the natural beauty of the only natural Floridian space left in southern Coconut Creek, our elected officials have over stepped their given power.

The Commissioners seem to be supporting an outside Special Interest Group that make multiple contributions to their campaign funds and is currently representing the city in a lawsuit regarding rezoning. This to many residents that have raised many good arguments against the destruction of this wetland,  appears to be a blatant conflict of interest.

This same Special Interest Group it would seem is now monopolizing the MAINSTREET Project for our new down town area.

While they say you can't fight City Hall, you sure as hell can change it. "We the People", still stands for something and together we'll prove it.

Please keep returning to our website for up and coming information and inform all Coconut Creek residents about our website.

"For the People, By the People.

Commissioners all voted 5-0, to rezone in favor of the big box land developer. We will appeal, and we ask you to return often to www.coconutcreekfl.org, and support our struggle against
local government and corporate greed.
.....update coming soon.

I think were going to need a bigger boat!.

With well over 400 residents present to protest the rezoning at the beginning of the September 11th  Commissioners meeting, the city allowed a
filibustering display by the Developer (An old Enron Tactic) to whither down and beat the public into  submission. Some say the city might have helped in the planning of that strategy in an attempt not to be over burdened by public opinion on this important matter.

The hearing started at 7:00pm and did not give a single resident of coconut creek a chance to say a single word on the rezoning until after one o'clock in the morning. Forcing over 300 citizens (mostly the elderly, the children and early morning workers) to leave the (open to public) hearing.

By three o'clock in the morning with just a few exhausted and splitting headache, beaten into the ground remaining citizens,  the Commissioners  and Mayor voted 5-0 in favor of the rezoning on grounds that this project would be better than a project the developer threatened both the residents and the Commissioners they could build if this project wasn't approved. Even though the citizens had pointed out to the commission that the project developer threatened with, would not have been legal under our current ordinance, it had no sway.

All five Commissioners including Mayor Tooley stated at the end that they are doing this only because what Coconut Creek would, under threat,  get instead. On this basis, they all would rush to approve the current project (going against every single residents plea to stop this monstrosity) before the developer could ram down their throats an unsightly alternative.

Issues were raised by residents that the current project the developer is trying to get approved does not meet city code. These issues were not  argued as  the public hearing was then closed and no further comments were allowed other than from the developer.

The developer(Regency Centers), legal representative, Ruden McClosky, currently represents the City of Coconut Creek on other illegal/legal issues in our county court system addressing rezoning within Coconut Creek. Furthermore, Ruden McClosky is also the legal representation of all five developers that are developing Coconut Creek, at the present time in the new MainStreet project, for the future of down town Coconut Creek.

It is the opinion of coconutcreekfl.org that this law firm has been getting away with stuffing development after development down the throats of the residents of Coconut Creeks with little to no over sight and blatant disregard of our city ordinances and comprehensive plan.

"Are we witnessing the Good Old Boys,  at the citizens expense?" A good question to be raised by all Coconut Creek Residents.

I saw no
fortitude from our elected officials.
